Introduction (RX10 M4)

On July 16, 2019, a partial eclipse of the moon could be observed in whole Germany - at least, where it was not cloudy or even did rain. We observed and photographed the lunar eclipse on the Heiligenstein hill and, after midnight, from our terrace in Mühlhausen/Kraichgau (Sky-Watcher Skymax-127 with 32 mm eyepiece and screwed on Sony RX100 M4, as well as Sony RX10 M4 on tripod). The sky was sometimes cloudy in Mühlhausen, which can be seen on some photos. We finished our observations at about 1:30 o'clock (the moon has left the earth's umbra = end of the partial phase, 3rd contact), and were in bed at 2 o'clock...

Here, I present photos that I took with the Sony RX10 M4 (on a tripod).

Data (Germany)

The following data was extracted from the Website =, page Die Mondfinsternis am 16.07.2019 im Rückblick:

Here in Mühlhausen everything seemed to take place a few minutes later, probably due to the relatively Western location. For the next partial eclipse of the moon, we have to be patient until November 2021! My observations lay between the start and the end of visibility (21:35 to 1:17 o'clock).

With the Sony RX10 M4, I took about 340 photos, some of which I discarded immediately, and of which I can, of course, only present a small selection here. I exposed manually.

The times are uncorrected camera values. If you click a thumb nail, a larger version (1:1 pixels, 900 x 900 pixels) of the image will appear in a new window. You have to close this new window manually!

Partial Eclise of the Moon, July 16-17, 2019 - Sony RX100 M4

Special Photos

Here, I present photos showing clouds or vapor stripes. In addition, there are two photos where I tried to expose to the dark side of the moon in order to also capture the clouds veils, but this was not very successful.
