Ricoh GXR: Macro Comparisons

A12-50 | S10 | P10

Archive

On this page, I provide a number of macro samples that I took with the two camera units that were initially available, the A12-50 and the S10. Some of the samples are very similar, some are not so similar, and others are not at all... The first ones are, of course, the most interesting ones, because they illustrate the differences between the units.

All S10 photos, except for the last one, were taken with an equivalent focal length of 50mm for easier comparison.

ISO was set to ISO 400 for the S10 and to ISO 800 for the A12-50, because this was a really dark day. For some of the S10 photos, I used a Hama LED ring light that can be attached to the tripod socket and put over the lens (I did not expect it to work because it did not really work with the GX100 - I did not check the GX200). This light is a "poor man's" ring flash and has two levels of brightness (see photo below). BTW: Macro mode extends to infinity.

At the end of 2011, I added two macro scenes taken with the P10 at three different focal lengths: 31mm (that's what you get when you set 28mm), 50mm, and 200 mm (equivalent). Watch out for the different depth of field.
